This is an original illustrated map of Lewisham, inspired by decorative antique map prints and the designs of MacDonald Gill (1884-1947). The map has been entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured by the artist.
Its decoration scheme references the area's rich diversity, culture and history. The borough coat of arms features at the bottom right; two illustrations at the bottom left and top right show the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill and the Laban Dance Centre in Deptford respectively. The border decoration is inspired by the Victorian railway station architecture prevalent in the borough and the compass design references the clock faces on the tower at the top of Lewisham High Street.
Neighbourhoods covered by the map include: Bellingham, Blackheath (part), Brockley, Catford, Deptford, Downham, Forest Hill, Grove Park, Hither Green, Honor Oak, Ladywell, Lee, Lewisham, New Cross, St Johns, Southend, Sydenham (part) and Telegraph Hill.
