Simone Lia is a cartoonist and author living in Brockley. She has written two graphic novels: ‘Fluffy’ (a story of a bunny in denial) and ‘Please God, Find Me a Husband!‘ (an autobiographical journey!). You will love them. You can also read Simone’s comics every week in The Observer, ‘Things I’ve Learned’.
I’ve been living in the area for more than 15 years. When I moved here I really enjoyed the fact that Brockley was so close to London but with plenty of green and peaceful spaces. On a Sunday you can hear the church bells ringing as if it were a village. People come and go, but largely I've had the same neighbours up and down the street for the length of time that I’ve been here and that brings about a sense of stability and continuity. A few of the things that I love about Brockley are the beautiful streets in the conservation area, a game of tennis with views over London in Telegraph Hill Park, picnics on Hilly Fields on a summer's day and quite a few happy times dining at the Malaysian Deli in Crofton Park.
