Steve is a Brockley potter working at the Lewisham Arthouse. He practises traditional wheel-throwing techniques from Japan, where he spent his formative years.
Steve is passionate that not only should a great piece of pottery be aesthetically pleasing, he believes the experience of using it should be something special. Beautiful and tactile, his work is a perfect fusion of form and function.
Steve works in stoneware and porcelain, which are both hardwearing and long-lasting. All the glazes are
food-safe, dishwasher-proof and usable in microwaves.
Having spent years working in the West End and the City it is a relief to be able to work in somewhere calmer such as Brockley. It has such a relaxed atmosphere which is probably why so many artists have gathered here. I normally walk to work and love going through the tree-lined streets observing the seasonal change. By the time I get to the studios I am usually quite relaxed and chilled, ready to work with some mud.
